Rashmika Mandanna says hip injury gave her more time with Vijay Deverakonda

Rashmika Mandanna’s recent hip injury may have forced her to slow down, but it also gave the actor something she had barely had since her wedding to Vijay Deverakonda — time with her husband. In a recent interview, Rashmika opened up about the injury, her unexpected break from work and how the downtime allowed the couple to finally spend quality time together after being separated by their packed schedules.Rashmika revealed that she and Vijay had barely seen each other for three months after their wedding in February this year, with most of their communication limited to phone calls. Her injury, which forced her to stay home, changed that.“We didn’t get to see each other for three months after the wedding; we would just speak on the phone,” she said, calling the break “the universe’s way of saying, calm down, I will keep you at home now.”The actor, in an interview with Hindustan Times, admitted that the extended time together initially felt unusual, but eventually became something she enjoyed. It was also the longest stretch of time the newlyweds had spent together since their wedding. Their entertainment choices, however, are quite different. While Vijay prefers serious shows, Rashmika is a fan of K-dramas. The couple has now found a middle ground, with Rashmika joking that she has already managed to “convert him” to her preferences.Vijay, she revealed, would happily have more such downtime with her — just without the injury that brought it about. “Vijay says, ‘Let’s have more of this, but next time without an injury!’” she said with a laugh. The break also gave Rashmika time to catch up on sleep, read, solve puzzles and spend time with her family. She said she would miss these quieter moments once she returned to her hectic schedule.Despite being injured, Rashmika said she did not feel particularly helpless. She explained that she dislikes depending on others and prefers being able to take care of herself. “I don’t like to depend on anyone to help me,” she said, adding that she had a good time making memories with her family despite the circumstances.Rashmika also revealed how the injury happened. While shooting for a song, the tendon near her hip suddenly snapped. Although she felt the injury, she continued filming until she could no longer lift her right leg.She visited the hospital the following day and underwent an MRI. Interestingly, she said the doctors were surprised that she had managed to walk into the hospital by herself. “They told me my pain receptors are messed up!” she recalled. Doctors cleared her to return to work within a week, but Rashmika was eager to get back much sooner. She plans to resume shooting for Ranabaali in Hyderabad, which is nearing its release and has around 10 days of filming left. After that, she has two more films lined up. With her calendar already packed, Rashmika admitted that she is beginning to feel anxious about getting back into her usual routine.- EndsPublished On: Sep 3, 2026 10:40 IST
