Mandatory Credit: Stan Szeto-Imagn Images Jack Jasinski headed in the tying goal in the 83rd minute as the San Jose Earthquakes played the visiting Colorado Rapids to a 2-2 tie on Wednesday night. Reid Roberts scored a first-half goal for the Earthquakes, who are winless over their past five matches (0-1-4). San Jose (13-9-10, 49 points) dropped into fifth place in the Western Conference behind Houston's win at Seattle on Wednesday night. Morgan Whittaker and Darren Yapi notched goals for Colorado (12-13-7, 43 points), which moved up into seventh place in the West due to holding the tiebreaker edge in total wins over Seattle. The Rapids are unbeaten over their past five matches (1-0-4), including two ties with the Earthquakes. Colorado is just 2-10-4 on the road. Goalkeeper Nico Hansen made six saves for the Rapids while San Jose's Angus Gunn didn't make any. San Jose outshot Colorado 17-8 and put eight shots on target to two for the Rapids. Yapi gave Colorado a 2-1 lead in the 73rd minute, two minutes after the Rapids went up a man when San Jose's Timo Werner drew a red card. Yapi received a pass from Georgi Minoungou and dribbled away from the goal to create some space and then drilled a right-footer past Gunn. In the 75th minute, Colorado's Kosi Thompson was shown a red card after tripping Preston Judd on a run near the outside of the box. That put both teams even at 10 men. Eight minutes later, Niko Tsakiris launched a corner kick toward the far post and Jasinski jumped and knocked in the tying goal. The Earthquakes' first goal in the 15th minute also came on a corner kick. Werner delivered a stellar cross and Roberts leaped and headed the ball into the net to give San Jose a 1-0 lead. Colorado knotted the score in the 26th minute as Whittaker sent a left-footed shot into the lower right corner off an assist by Wayne Frederick. Werner had a big opportunity for the Quakes in the 70th minute but his hard left-footed blast was stopped by Hansen. One minute later, after Colorado won a free kick, Werner was involved in an argument with the official and given the red card. --Field Level Media
