The Rangers are making some organizational adjustments after falling just short of a playoff spot this season. Assistant hitting coach Alex Cintrón will not return to the position, president of baseball operations Chris Young told reporters on Monday (h/t Shawn McFarland of the Dallas Morning News). Texas parted ways with assistant pitching coach Dave Bush. Cintrón will remain with the team in an offensive-related role. Young made the decision sound more like something that came from Cintrón instead of the organization, with the former infielder trying “to balance what’s best for him at this point.” After a nine-year playing career, Cintrón entered the coaching ranks. He’s spent the past decade in the dugout, mostly with the Astros. Houston hired him as an assistant in 2017. Cintrón served as first base coach and then hitting coach with the Astros through 2025. The Rangers hired him as an assistant to lead hitting coach Justin Viele this past season. Bush has been with the team for three seasons. He was initially hired as director of pitching strategy in 2024. He’s been an assistant on the big-league staff the past two years. Bush worked under pitching coach Jordan Tiegs in 2026. Young said the club is not planning on hiring someone else for Bush’s role. The Rangers pitching staff was hit hard by injuries this season, including extended absences for Jack Leiter and Nathan Eovaldi. Jacob deGrom also dealt with nagging issues but never went on the injured list. The biggest development in the unit was the emergence of Jacob Latz. The former starter fell short of a rotation spot, but seized the closer role and delivered an All-Star campaign. Texas also made some adjustments in the front office. Nick Hundley was promoted to vice president of player development. Hamilton Wise was bumped up to vice president of amateur and international scouting. Mike Parnell is now vice president of pro personnel. Josh Boyd was promoted to a senior advisor position in the amateur and Pacific Rim departments. Hundley, who played a dozen seasons in the majors, has worked under Young since 2022. He’s been a senior advisor to baseball operations for the past two years. Hundley has been in the mix for managerial gigs since joining the Rangers front office. He’s been connected to the Giants job on multiple occasions. He was a finalist for the Padres vacancy last offseason. Young said Hundley will now be the “top voice” in the player development department. Photo courtesy of Isaiah J.
