Ramayana trailer: Ranbir's Ram, Yash's Raavan stand at heart of a cinematic odyssey

The wait for Nitesh Tiwari's Ramayana is finally over. The makers unveiled the film's first trailer on July 30, offering the first extended look at Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Ram, Yash as Raavan and Sai Pallavi as Sita. Released during the Brahma Muhurat at 4.15 am, the trailer introduces the central conflict between Ram and Raavan while giving a glimpse of the epic world the makers have recreated for the big screen.The four-minute-nine-second trailer opens with Yash’s Raavan walking past a door with his head covered, before declaring, “Tumhara naya raja (Your new king).” It then cuts to high-octane action sequences, with Raavan proclaiming, “Dev Lok, Prithvi Lok, Paatal Lok, teeno mein ek hi raja hoga”, before dramatically shouting his name while standing atop a towering palace gate. The trailer then offers glimpses of Lanka, Raavan’s Pushpak Vimaan and his meteoric rise to power, establishing the king of Lanka as one of its most striking and prominent figures.Ranbir Kapoor's Lord Ram is introduced soon after, with visuals of him riding on horseback and sharing moments with Sai Pallavi's Sita. The trailer also features the couple's wedding before moving to Ayodhya, where Kaikeyi's decision sends Ram, Sita and Lakshman into exile.Sai Pallavi also leaves a strong impression as Sita. With her understated grace and warmth, she brings quiet elegance to the character in the trailer's key moments. Her Hindi diction, which had sparked curiosity ahead of the film's release, also stands out. She delivers her lines with ease, making her portrayal feel all the more believable. Actor Lara Dutta appears as Kaikeyi, while actor Ravi Dubey is seen as Lord Ram's brother, Lakshman. Arun Govil, who plays King Dashrath, is also shown in an emotional moment as he runs after Ram and Lakshman as they leave Ayodhya.While the trailer shows no visuals of Sunny Deol as Lord Hanuman, it offers brief glimpses of actors Vivek Oberoi, Saurabh Sachdeva and several other members of the ensemble cast. Another key highlight is the film's music. Composed by AR Rahman in collaboration with Hans Zimmer, the score accompanies the visuals as the story moves from Ayodhya to Lanka and builds towards the confrontation between Ram and Raavan.While the trailer introduces several major characters, it largely revolves around the two central figures of the epic.
