Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, who is on a three-day visit to Sri Lanka, held a bilateral meeting with Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake in Colombo.Mr. Singh on X said, “Today, I held an extremely fruitful meeting in Colombo with His Excellency President Anura Kumara Dissanayake of Sri Lanka.” He also congratulated Mr. Dissanayake’s government for “successfully completing two years in office.”“As civilizational cousins, close neighbours, and maritime partners, India and Sri Lanka, we once again reaffirmed our commitment to continue working together for the development of our two countries and the well-being of our two peoples, as well as to ensure the security, safety, peace, and prosperity of our region,” he added.The details of the meeting are awaited.Mr. Singh arrived in Sri Lanka on Tuesday (September 8, 2026) for a three-day visit aimed at strengthening bilateral ties and expanding cooperation in defence and regional maritime security.This is the first visit by an Indian Defence Minister to Sri Lanka in 38 years.(With inputs from ANI, PTI).
