Rajasthan governor seeks periodic evaluation of teachers every five years

Around 300 participants, including scientists, teachers, medical professionals, researchers, social workers and students from across the country, attended the workshop, according to PTI.NEED FOR CONTINUOUS LEARNING AND STRONGER EDUCATION STANDARDSBagde said a nation's progress should not be measured only by economic growth but also by intellectual development, honesty, curiosity and a lifelong commitment to learning. He urged students and researchers to develop the habit of regular study, ask meaningful questions and draw inspiration from India's traditional knowledge systems and Vedic education. To raise educational standards, he proposed that teachers undergo an assessment once every five years to measure their subject knowledge and teaching skills. According to him, such evaluations would help determine the quality of education being delivered to students.Responding to concerns raised by some teachers' organisations, the governor said the proposed evaluation would be purely academic in nature and would not affect teachers' employment, service conditions or retirement benefits. Bagde also highlighted Rajasthan's campaign to make the state drug-free and referred to India's efforts to eliminate tuberculosis. He said the country should show the same resolve in eliminating paper leaks, adding that preventing such incidents is the responsibility of everyone involved in education, from primary school teachers to university faculty.Expressing concern over dummy admissions and the functioning of certain schools, he said he had asked officials to gather data on such institutions so that appropriate action could be taken.Speaking at the inaugural session, SSUN National Secretary Dr Atul Kothari said educating girls from poor and disadvantaged backgrounds is one of the most important steps towards nation-building.Agriculture University Vice-Chancellor Dr Vimla Dunkwal, who presided over the event, said "Nari Shakti hi Rashtra Shakti" and stressed the need to provide quality education and healthcare to every girl and woman for inclusive development.National Women's Action Coordinator Dr Shobha Paithankar also voiced concern over the growing dependence on fast food and its impact on public health.- EndsPublished By: Mridusmita DekaPublished On: Aug 1, 2026 08:44 IST
