File | Photo Credit: PTI Ahead of the fifth edition of his Chhatron Ki Goonj programme in Indore on September 19, Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi on Thursday sought students’ views on the problems plaguing the country’s education system. The Congress has been seeking to expand the Chhatron Ki Goonj initiative, which literally translates as ‘Echo of students’, as part of its outreach to students and young voters. Mr. Gandhi, who has held similar interactions with students in Kota, Dehradun, Prayagraj and Pune, said hearing the concerns and views of students across the country was essential to changing the system. In a post on X, Mr. Gandhi said the education system had “extinguished” the hopes of many young people and pushed their future into uncertainty. He urged students to share what was preventing them from achieving their aspirations and invited them to send their views through an online feedback form or video messages.Amplifying students’ worriesIn a video accompanying his post, Mr. Gandhi said the initiative was intended to bring students’ concerns before the country and raise issues they wanted addressed.“The objective of the Chhatron ki Goonj programme is to keep before the country your thoughts, expression and fears. And also raise the issues that our students want raised,” he said. “And in that way the Chhatron ki Goonj idea is to express the voice of India’s students — tribal students, those on hunger strikes, and the students who died in the Delhi building collapse. There are examples of this across the country,” Mr Gandhi added.Asserting that the students have lost faith in the education system, the Opposition leader urged students to express their views through a link he shared on his social media handle. “We want you to tell us your thoughts about the education system. It can be the exam system, it can be the type of pressure it puts you under, it can be hostels, accommodation... we want to hear from you what it is that makes you lose hope in our education system,” he said.
