The Congress has claimed that pellet guns were used by RAF personnel during the July 20 students' 'Sansad Chalo' march after cases of injuries emerged in subsequent days.Rahul Gandhi at the Parliament Street Police StationHigh drama unfolded on Friday as Congress MP Rahul Gandhi staged a dharna (sit-in) outside Delhi's Parliament Street Police Station along with a pellet-gun victim who alleged that cops were refusing to file an FIR in the case. Gandhi visited the police station with Sahil Lochab, a 19-year-old who allegedly suffered pellet-gun injuries during the July 20 Gen Z protest.Visuals showed Gandhi walking into the police station with Lochab and others, taking the officials by surprise. As the cops refused to register an FIR, Gandhi staged a sit-in outside the police station in protest. Rahul said he would stay put at the police station until an FIR was formally registered.Chaos ensued as several Congress workers, accompanied by senior leaders Priyanka Gandhi, Jairam Ramesh and Kumari Selja, forced their way into the police station to join Rahul in his protest.Delhi Police, however, said the complaint of the victim was accepted and pointed out that the Crime Branch was already investigating all the cases registered on July 20. An investigating officer (IO) has also been assigned. "The complainant has been told that his complaint too will be sent to the Crime Branch," police said. RAHUL STAGES PROTEST WITH PELLET GUN VICTIMThe Congress has claimed that pellet guns were used by RAF personnel during the July 20 'Sansad Chalo' march after cases of injuries emerged in subsequent days. Although the Delhi Police has repeatedly denied using pellet guns, the CRPF has remained silent on the issue. However, accounts from injured protesters, medical reports and an investigation by India Today have raised questions about the claim that pellet guns were not used on July 20. In fact, an RTI application filed by TMC leader Saket Gokhale revealed that the incident left at least 10 people with pellet injuries.Violence broke out on July 20 as hundreds of students attempted to march towards Parliament demanding the resignation of then Education Minister over exam paper leaks. Pradhan eventually resigned as Education Minister days later. The Leader of Opposition (LoP) first reached Connaught Place Police Station with the alleged victim. He was later informed that New Delhi DCP Sachin Sharma was at Parliament Street Police Station. Gandhi then went there and sought an update on the investigation.RAHUL GANDHI UPS ANTE ON PELLET HUN ISSUELast month, Rahul, in a media briefing, showed the injuries suffered by the 19-year-old. He claimed Lochab underwent surgery during which doctors reportedly removed multiple metallic pellets from his eye.The Congress claimed that Lochab had repeatedly approached the police, along with his lawyers, to register an FIR over the alleged use of pellet guns against him during the protest. However, the party claimed the attempts proved futile. The issue was at the heart of the uproar during the Monsoon Session of Parliament, which was nearly a washout.Rahul Gandhi has directly held Union Home Minister Amit Shah responsible for the use of excessive force, including pellet guns, against student protesters on July 20.The Congress MP has alleged that Shah authorised the use of lethal weapons during the protests. He also dared him to speak in Parliament on the issue and clarify if he ordered the use of pellet guns or not.- EndsPublished By: Devika BhattacharyaPublished On: Aug 21, 2026 12:19 IST
