Rahul and Priyanka opposing SIR to avert internal dissent, says Basavaraj Bommai

Former Karnataka Chief Minister and BJP MP Basavaraj Bommai on Tuesday alleged that Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra were opposing the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in an attempt to prevent internal dissent within the party.Speaking to reporters after attending the nomination filing of BJP candidate S.V. Sankanur for the Karnataka West Graduates’ Constituency in Dharwad on Tuesday, Mr. Bommai said the Congress leaders’ protest demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar was aimed at diverting attention from what he described as the party’s shortcomings over the past 15 years.“If they do not raise such issues, they will face internal rebellion in the coming days. The protests are being used to prevent such dissent,” he alleged.Mr. Bommai said the controversy over the SIR would not benefit the Congress and expressed confidence that the issue would ultimately be decided through the judicial process.“Truth alone triumphs. The Supreme Court will take the final decision on the matter,” he said. Published - October 06, 2026 07:43 pm IST
