RAF fighter jets scrambled to escort passenger plane set to land at major UK airport after flight was ‘causing concern’

TWO RAF jets have been scrambled to escort a flight heading to a major UK airport. The RAF have confirmed a ”quick reaction alert” was activated as the flight was “causing concern to civil authorities”. The Qatar Airways flight was seen landing safely Credit: X/@kippaxgirlemily The incident began after Qatar Airways flight QR23 from the Qatari capital Doha to Manchester Airport entered UK airspace this evening. It is not clear what the cause for concern is about although it’s is understood it was thought there was an issue with the aircraft. Sign up for The Sun newsletter Thank you! Some aviation websites say that air traffic controllers lost contact with the aircraft, although this has not been confirmed. The RAF have confirmed two Typhoon jets were sent to escort the aircraft. The escort though is thought to have been called off some time before it reached Manchester airport. An RAF spokesperson said: “We can confirm that an RAF Quick Reaction Alert was launched for a Qatar Airways flight which was causing concern to civil authorities. “The incident was resolved and the airliner landed safely at Manchester Airport.” 1 comment1
