Racing shock as George Boughey announces unbeaten superstar Bow Echo has been retired with immediate effect

The 2,000 Guineas, St James’s Palace Stakes and recent Sussex Stakes winner has suffered a ‘setback’ and will never race again. Together the two, along with Boughey’s expert handling, have been arguably the story of the season so far. On three occasions Bow Echo has taken on Aidan O’Brien’s Gstaad – and beaten him all three times. Their head-to-heads have proved thrilling viewing for fans, with Bow Echo roared to success on what turned out to be his final run at last month’s Glorious Goodwood. Boughey said in a statement posted on X: “It is with great disappointment that we have to announce that Bow Echo has had a setback and will be retired from racing. “It has been the honour of a lifetime to train a horse like Bow Echo. “He has given us some extraordinary days and taken everyone involved on a journey we will never forget. “To retire unbeaten, having won the 2,000 Guineas, St James’s Palace Stakes and Sussex Stakes says everything about what an exceptional racehorse he has been.
