Quentin Tarantino's 3-Part Action Horror Franchise Is Officially Streaming On New Home

The two-time Oscar winner is known for excessive action, witty dialogue, and generally wild plots. Tarantino plans to retire after directing his next film, having always believed an even 10 directorial features is the place to stop (he personally counts the two Kill Bill movies as one). However, Tarantino's career reaches further with writing and producing credits. For instance, he wrote the upcoming Netflix release The Adventures of Cliff Booth, the sequel to his own 2019 film Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, but David Fincher took over as director for this follow-up. Long before that, Tarantino helped kick off a cult classic franchise, writing the first movie in the From Dusk till Dawn franchise, directed by Robert Rodríguez. From Dusk till Dawn, starring George Clooney, Harvey Keitel, and Tarantino himself, was released in 1996 and spawned two more movies, a TV series, and a video game. For Tarantino fans who haven't had the chance to experience this strange phenomenon, From Dusk till Dawn, From Dusk till Dawn 2: Texas Blood Money, and From Dusk till Dawn 3: The Hangman's Daughter are all now streaming on Paramount+. From Dusk till Dawn follows two criminal brothers (Clooney and Tarantino) who take a family hostage and travel with them over the Mexican border, but are held up in a saloon by a gang of vampires. The next two movies, both released in 1999, were direct-to-video releases that were produced back-to-back. Tarantino executive-produced From Dusk till Dawn 2, with Scott Spiegel as director. Meanwhile, the original director, Robert Rodriguez, worked on the prequel From Dusk till Dawn 3 with his cousin Álvaro Rodríguez and their director P. J. Pesce. The first movie, which also features Salma Hayek and Juliette Lewis among the main cast, has a decent critical consensus with a Rotten Tomatoes score of 65%, but its legacy is firmly in the power of a cult classic, one popular enough to lead to many spinoffs. From Dusk till Dawn isn't usually counted among Tarantino's best movies because it is not one he directed — and it is obviously just not as good as his masterpieces such as Pulp Fiction and Inglourious Basterds. But it is an intriguing time capsule of pop culture, representing a blend of many genres: crime, horror, Western, comedy, action, vampire, and perhaps more viewers will find upon watching it.
