Queenstown flight diverts to Christchurch after 'incident'

A Qantas flight has diverted to Christchurch shortly after take-off from Queenstown.A witness told RNZ they were watching planes take off when they saw what they believed to be a "burst of flames" from the left engine.They "then heard a series of loud bangs, like two or three"."Quite the sight really," they said.Christchurch Airport confirmed they were aware of an incident but could not confirm further details.Fire and Emergency New Zealand have been contacted for more information.Police said they had been notified, but officials were yet to reveal the nature of the problem.Qantas said it was collating information and would release a statement when it was possible.MORE TO COME...
