Queen Camilla Addresses King Charles' Cancer Diagnosis for First Time

More than two years after Buckingham Palace announced the monarch's cancer diagnosis, Camilla spoke about their journey in a short film published by Maggie's—a charity she visited which provides support to cancer patients—on Aug. 19. "I remember coming to see a Maggie's just after the king being diagnosed,” she shared in the video stemming from her 2024 trip, per Reuters. “Nobody could say anything at the time, that was quite difficult.” Though Camilla, 79, wanted to share her thoughts openly, at the time, they were still keeping the matter private. "I almost said something but, you know, I felt that it wasn't the time to say,” she continued. "[I] looked at everybody who was suffering and all the relations, and I think it made me realize even more how important these places were. I was just longing to let it out but obviously I couldn't." Elsewhere in the film, which marks Maggie's 30th anniversary according to the outlet, Camilla also shared how focused Charles was on to continue working despite his struggles."Look at my husband, nothing stopped him," she reflected. "He just said, ‘This is my way I'm going to cope with it.'" In December, Charles, 77, shared a positive update, noting his treatment schedule would be "reduced" in 2026 "thanks to early diagnosis, effective intervention and adherence to 'doctors’ orders."Samir Hussein/WireImage"This milestone is both a personal blessing and a testimony to the remarkable advances that have been made in cancer care in recent years," Charles shared in a pre-recorded video that aired during Channel 4's Stand Up To Cancer, "testimony that I hope may give encouragement to the 50 percent of us who will be diagnosed with the illness at some point in our lives." The royal went on to note that an early diagnosis can give "invaluable time to medical teams—and, to their patients, the precious gift of hope." "I know, too, what a difference it has made in my own case," he added, "enabling me to continue leading a full and active life, even while undergoing treatment." But as Charles—dad to Prince William and Prince Harry—explained, he's learned more than just about himself while on this personal journey. "As I have observed before," he said in his video message, "the darkest moments of illness can be illuminated by the greatest compassion."
