Qatar’s Amir receives Iraqi PM in Doha for talks on regional security and bilateral ties

Qatar’s Amir Sheikh Tamim and Iraqi Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi discussed bilateral cooperation and called for diplomacy and implementation of the U.S.-Iran memorandum of understanding to bolster regional stability.Qatar’s Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani and Iraqi Prime Minister Ali Al-Zaidi held official talks at Lusail Palace on Sunday, discussing bilateral relations and regional developments, including the need to implement the U.S.-Iran memorandum of understanding to support stability in the Gulf.At the start of the meeting, Sheikh Tamim welcomed Al Zaidi and his accompanying delegation, expressing hope that relations between Qatar and Iraq would continue to grow across various sectors.The Iraqi prime minister offered his condolences to the Amir on the death of the Father Amir, Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, who passed away on 12 July. He also thanked Sheikh Tamim for the warm reception and said he hoped the visit would further strengthen cooperation between the two countries.The two leaders reviewed bilateral ties and explored ways to deepen cooperation in a range of fields, according to the Amiri Diwan.They also discussed the latest regional and international developments, particularly the situation in the Middle East, stressing the importance of dialogue and diplomacy.Both sides stressed the need to implement the agreements reached under the memorandum of understanding between the United States and Iran, including ensuring freedom of navigation through the Strait of Hormuz and promoting regional stability.Qatar’s Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, attended the talks, alongside Minister of State at the Foreign Ministry Mohammed bin Abdulaziz Al Khulaifi and Amiri Diwan Chief Abdullah bin Mohammed Al Khulaifi. Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein and other senior officials were also present.
