Qatar prepares to host FIVB Volleyball Boys’ U17 World Championship

Qatar is entering the final stages of preparations to host the FIVB Volleyball Boys’ U17World Championship, with the tournament set to begin on August 19 and run throughAugust 29 in Doha.Qatar’s organising committee held a virtual coordination meeting on Monday to reviewpreparations ahead of the championship. The meeting was chaired by Qatar VolleyballAssociation President Ali Ghanem Al Kuwari and attended by members of the tournament’ssupervising committees.The committee reviewed organisational, technical, media and logistical preparations ahead of the opening of the championship. Al Kuwari praised the efforts of those involved and highlighted the importance of coordination and teamwork in delivering the tournament.He also encouraged committee members to continue preparations ahead of the opening, with organisers working to provide a smooth experience for participating teams, delegations, guests and spectators.The 11-day tournament will bring together 20 teams competing at Aspire Sports Hall and AlArabi Sports Club Hall from 19 to 29 August. Qatar has been drawn in Pool A alongside Tunisia, France and Venezuela.The teams are divided into five pools of four, with each side playing three matches in thepreliminary round. The top 16 teams overall will advance to the Round of 16 before thecompetition moves into its knockout stages.With several participating teams already arriving in Doha, preparations are also gathering pace on the court ahead of Wednesday’s opening matches.The Qatar Volleyball Association has shared updates of visiting teams arriving in the capital and beginning their final preparations, while Qatar’s U17 side continues its training ahead of the tournament.The 2026 tournament is the second edition of the Boys’ U17 World Championship. Theinaugural competition was held in Sofia, Bulgaria, in 2024, where Italy defeated Argentina in the final to become the tournament’s first world champions.
