Qatar strongly condemned renewed Iranian attacks on Kuwait, warning they threaten regional stability and undermine diplomatic efforts to contain escalating tensions.Qatar has strongly condemned renewed Iranian attacks on Kuwait, describing them as a “flagrant violation” of the Gulf state’s sovereignty and territorial integrity and a breach of international law and the UN Charter.The condemnation came after Kuwait’s military said on Thursday that its air defences were intercepting an Iranian missile and drone attack, amid a sharp escalation in fighting between Tehran and Washington.In a statement, Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs warned that the continuation of the attacks represented a dangerous escalation that could complicate efforts to contain regional tensions and undermine political and diplomatic attempts to restore security and stability.The ministry said Iran bore “full legal responsibility” for the attacks and their repercussions and consequences.Qatar also reaffirmed its full solidarity with Kuwait and expressed support for all legitimate measures taken by its Gulf neighbour to protect its sovereignty, security and territorial integrity.The ministry called for an immediate and complete halt to military actions and attacks threatening regional security and stability. It also urged all sides to refrain from actions that could widen the conflict and called for a serious return to dialogue and negotiations.Kuwait’s army said its air defences were engaging Iranian missiles and drones on Thursday morning, while Iranian state television confirmed that Tehran was targeting US military bases in the country.Iran’s army later said it had targeted the Ahmad al-Jaber Air Base in Kuwait with missiles and drones, claiming that satellite communications systems, equipment depots and fighter aircraft hangars at the base had been struck. It also said it attacked the Al Minhad Air Base in the UAE.The attacks came amid renewed fighting between Iran and the United States after Washington resumed airstrikes on Iranian targets on Sunday. Tehran responded by launching attacks against US military targets across the region, including in Kuwait, the UAE and Jordan.The latest confrontation follows months of regional conflict. Israel and the United States launched attacks on Iran in late February, before U.S. President Donald Trump secured a ceasefire in April. That truce later collapsed, with the latest exchange marking the heaviest escalation between Washington and Tehran in weeks.Qatar stressed that further military escalation risked undermining diplomatic efforts and called for parties to adhere to understandings already reached through diplomacy.
