Qatar condemns Iranian attacks on Jordan and UAE, calls for de-escalation

Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the attacks violate international law and the UN Charter, and pose a ‘dangerous escalation’ to the region.Qatar has strongly condemned renewed Iranian attacks targeting Jordan with missiles and the United Arab Emirates with a drone. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said on Monday that the attacks violate the sovereignty and territorial integrity of both countries, as well as international law and the UN Charter.The Ministry of Foreign Affairs affirmed in the statement that the continuation of these aggressions represents “a dangerous escalation that will complicate efforts aimed at containing tensions, and undermine political and diplomatic efforts aimed at achieving security and stability in the region.”The U.S. and Iran have traded strikes after American forces attacked Larak Island in the Strait of Hormuz late on Sunday.The U.S. Central Command [CENTCOM] said it took “limited, precise action against IRGC minelaying forces posing an imminent threat in the Strait of Hormuz.”This is the first known U.S. strike on Iran since late July, which killed two people and wounded two others. Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps [IRGC] vowed: “to respond to the act of aggression.”“This act will draw a response by the Armed Forces and the aggressor will be punished,” the IRGC’s public relations office said on Sunday.Iran said it had struck U.S. military bases in Jordan in response. Jordan’s army said on Monday morning that it had intercepted eight missiles.Iran’s state TV also said the Iranian army had targeted an air base in the UAE with drones.However, the UAE’s Ministry of Defence denied the reports that Al-Minhad Air Base had been targeted as “unfounded”, but the UAE did confirm it shot down a drone. Qatar called for an immediate end to military actions, while expressing full solidarity with Jordan and the UAE and supporting measures to protect their sovereignty and security.
