Qatar condemns Houthi attacks on Saudi Arabia’s Najran region

Qatar and the GCC condemned Houthi attacks on Saudi Arabia’s Najran region after 11 civilians were injured, calling the assault a violation of international law and a threat to regional security.Qatar has condemned the Houthi attacks on Saudi Arabia’s southern Najran region, which injured 11 civilians, describing them as a violation of Saudi sovereignty, a breach of international law and a dangerous escalation threatening regional security and stability.In a statement issued on Friday, Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs reaffirmed its “total rejection of targeting civilians, civilian objects and vital facilities” and expressed its full solidarity with Saudi Arabia in measures taken to protect its territory and security.The attack, carried out by the Houthi group, injured seven Saudi citizens, one Yemeni national, two Egyptians and one Pakistani citizen, according to Saudi military spokesman Maj Gen Turki Al Maliki. Among those injured was a four-year-old child who suffered second-degree burns. Al Maliki said the Houthis had carried out “terrorist attacks using indiscriminate shelling against civilian objects,” describing the assault as a violation of international law and confirming that the Saudi-led coalition would continue taking “all necessary measures to protect civilians”.The Gulf Co-operation Council (GCC) also condemned the attack, with Secretary General Jasem Al Budaiwi describing it as a “heinous terrorist crime”. He called for accountability over the group’s “deliberate and indiscriminate targeting of civilians and civilian structures”, stressing that Saudi Arabia’s security is closely linked to the security of the wider GCC.Qatar reiterated its firm rejection of any targeting of civilians, civilian infrastructure, or vital facilities, while expressing full solidarity with Saudi Arabia in all measures taken to safeguard its territory, security, and stability.It also wished a swift recovery for those injured and prayed for the continued safety and protection of the Kingdom and its people.
