Qatar and Egypt prepare for seventh joint committee meeting in Alamein

Qatar and Egypt review bilateral cooperation, economic ties and regional issues ahead of the seventh session of the Joint Higher Committee in Egypt’s Alamein.Qatar and Egypt have reviewed progress in bilateral cooperation ahead of the seventh session of the Qatar-Egypt Joint Higher Committee, with senior officials meeting in the Egyptian city of Alamein on Wednesday.The preparatory meeting was co-chaired by Nayef Al Emadi, Director of the Arab Affairs Department at Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Ihab Fahmy, Assistant Foreign Minister for Arab Affairs in Egypt.It brought together representatives from a range of ministries and government bodies from both countries.The officials discussed progress across several areas of bilateral cooperation and reviewed agreements and other documents expected to be signed at Thursday’s main committee meeting. The seventh session is set to be chaired by Qatar’s Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani and Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty.During the preparatory meeting, the two sides highlighted growing economic, investment and trade ties, particularly following the launch of the first phase of the $29.7 billion Qatari-backed Alam Al Roum development on Egypt’s Mediterranean coast. The Alam Al Roum agreement was signed in November 2025 as part of a broader $7.5bn Qatar-Egypt investment partnership package. The project, involving Qatari Diar, is one of the major investment partnerships between the two countries.Qatar and Egypt also welcomed an agreement to begin the first round of negotiations on a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement in October. The talks aim to strengthen economic integration and expand opportunities for trade and investment.The Joint Higher Committee, established under an agreement signed in 1990, provides a framework for developing cooperation across economic, commercial, cultural, scientific and social fields, with regular sessions held alternately in Qatar and Egypt.The seventh meeting also comes amid continued regional tensions. The two sides reaffirmed their close coordination on regional and international issues and stressed the importance of joint efforts to reduce escalation and promote lasting peace and stability in the region.The previous, sixth session was held in Alamein in August 2025.Qatar and Egypt signed agreements covering social insurance, agriculture and food security, as well as a mechanism for political consultations between their foreign ministries.
