Qatar and Ecuador hold second round of political consultations in Doha

The latest political consultations between Qatar and Ecuador mark one of the highest-level engagements between the two countries since Ecuador’s new government took office in May 2025.Ecuador and Qatar held the second round of political consultations between their foreign ministries in Doha on Tuesday.The Ecuadorian delegation was led by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Human Mobility Alejandro Dávalos, while the Qatari side was headed by Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Sultan bin Saad Al Muraikhi.Ecuador’s Chargé d’Affaires in Doha, Carlos Andrés Zambrano Sánchez, accompanied Dávalos during his visit and attended separate meetings with senior Qatari officials.The consultations focused on bilateral cooperation and issues of mutual interest, marking the second formal round between Doha and Quito.During his visit, Dávalos also met Qatar Chamber Chairman Sheikh Khalifa bin Jassim bin Mohammed Al Thani on Monday to discuss economic and trade relations and opportunities to expand cooperation between the two countries’ private sectors.The two sides also discussed the possibility of holding a Qatar–Ecuador Business Meeting in the first quarter of 2027, bringing together business leaders and investors from both countries.Dávalos also met Qatar’s Minister of State for International Cooperation Mariam Al-Misnad on Monday. Both countries opened embassies in each other’s capitals in 2012, while high-level visits have helped deepen bilateral relations.In January 2013, the late Father Amir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani became the first Qatari head of state to visit Ecuador. Former Ecuadorian President Rafael Correa visited Doha in October 2014.Qatar’s Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani later visited Ecuador in 2018.Over the years, the two countries have signed agreements covering areas including trade and investment, economic and technical cooperation, legal affairs, air services and information exchange.Ecuador’s presence in Qatar has also grown through participation in trade, tourism, agriculture and cultural initiatives, including events promoting Ecuadorian products and destinations.
