Qatar’s Amir and Oman’s Sultan held talks in Doha aimed at strengthening longstanding ties and expanding cooperation between the two Gulf countries.Qatar’s Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani held talks with Oman’s Sultan Haitham bin Tariq in Doha on Sunday, with the two leaders discussing ways to strengthen longstanding ties and expand cooperation between the two Gulf countries.The meeting provided an opportunity to review bilateral relations and ways to develop them across various fields, while the two leaders also exchanged views on a number of issues of mutual interest.Strengthening historic tiesAccording to the official readout published by the Amiri Diwan, the morning session began with Sheikh Tamim welcoming Sultan Haitham and his accompanying delegation, wishing the Sultan well-being and praising the solid relations that unite Qatar and Oman.The Qatari Amir affirmed the commitment of Doha to strengthening the bilateral partnership in a manner that “fulfils the aspirations and serves the shared interests of both brotherly peoples.”In response, Sultan Haitham expressed his deep appreciation for the warm reception and generous hospitality in Doha. He reiterated the dedication of Muscat to enhancing coordination between the two countries, noting that the talks aim to reinforce their fraternal ties and “open up broader horizons for joint cooperation across various fields.”During the session, the leaders exchanged views on a number of issues of mutual interest, underscoring their shared approach to regional diplomacy.Reflecting the expansive nature of the talks, which spanned defence, trade, energy, and foreign policy, the summit was attended by senior officials from both governments.The Qatari delegation included Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Defence Affairs Sheikh Saoud bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, Minister of Interior and Commander of the Internal Security Force (Lekhwiya) Sheikh Khalifa bin Hamad Al Thani, and Chief of the Amiri Diwan Abdullah bin Mohammed Al Khulaifi.Also in attendance for Qatar were Minister of State for Energy Affairs Saad bin Sherida Al Kaabi, Minister of Commerce and Industry Sheikh Faisal bin Thani Al Thani, Minister of Transport Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulla Al Thani, and Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Sultan bin Saad Al Muraikhi.On the Omani side, the session was attended by the Minister of State and Governor of Muscat Sayyid Bilarab bin Haitham Al Said, Minister of the Diwan of Royal Court Sayyid Khalid bin Hilal Al Busaidi, and Minister of the Royal Office Lieutenant General Sultan bin Mohammed Al Numani.They were joined by Oman’s Minister of Interior Sayyid Hamoud bin Faisal Al Busaidi and Minister of Energy and Minerals Engineer Salim bin Nasser Al Aufi.Following the formal discussions, Sheikh Tamim hosted a state luncheon banquet in honour of the Omani Sultan and his official delegation.A strategic and expanding partnershipSunday’s summit highlights a growing alliance that has seen significant development over the past decade. The relationship between Doha and Muscat is defined by deep economic integration and closely aligned foreign policies. Both nations consistently advocate for dialogue and peaceful conflict resolution in the Middle East.Recently, Qatar and Oman have intensified their coordination regarding regional security challenges. Both countries maintain a united stance on the need for de-escalation across the Gulf and the wider Arab region.They have jointly called for an end to the war on Gaza and stressed the importance of respecting the sovereignty of regional states to prevent further conflict and safeguard regional stability.The fraternal visit concluded later on Sunday afternoon, with the Qatari Amir personally leading the farewell party for Sultan Haitham at the Amiri Hall of Hamad International Airport, marking a successful reaffirmation of one of the region’s most steadfast alliances.
