Q & A with Mahima Makwana & Vedika Pinto | In the mood for love....

At the India Today's Woman Summit, actors Mahima Makwana and Vedika Pinto, stars of the breakout romantic series Musafir Cafe, discuss fan love, flawed characters and balancing ambition with relationships. Excerpts:Photograph by BANDEEP SINGHQ: Do you see the show as a love triangle?Mahima: No. I see three people on their own journeys of self-discovery, and the impact two women have on [a man]. Love is universal; I don’t box it into a triangle.Q: What drew you to the role?Vedika: Beyond the romance, the writer didn’t shy away from flawed characters. Cinema often chases the ‘perfect’ man or woman—we’re not that. The challenge was, can you still be loved with your flaws? Q: The show asks if women must choose between ambition and love. Does that pressure still exist?Mahima: It’s baked into society. A man coming home tired isn’t selfish; an ambitious woman in love often is. Vedika: I grew up thinking ‘having it all’ meant a thriving career, a perfect home, an intact social life—and looking good doing it. But you prioritise different things at different times; it’s not one fixed formula.Q: Is there a right time for love?Vedika: There’s no wrong time for the wrong person. Sometimes they arrive exactly when you need the lesson.Mahima: I do believe in timing.
