Python spotted in Nepal locality during floods? This video is from Philippines

The deadly flash floods in Nepal have disrupted life completely in the Himalayan nation. More than a thousand people have died; many more remain missing; and even more have been displaced. The disaster has also affected the country’s wildlife.A video now going viral shows a giant snake swimming through floodwaters in a residential neighbourhood, allegedly in Nepal. One such post claimed: “A python was spotted moving through floodwaters in a flood-affected residential area in Nepal.” The video was also shared by Al Arabiya English and Amar Ujala, who claimed the snake was spotted in Nepal.India Today Fact Check, however, found that the video is not from Nepal. It is from a flood-affected city in the Philippines. OUR PROBEA reverse search of frames from the viral video led us to the clip shared by Bilyonaryo News Channel, a Philippines-based news outlet, on X. According to the post, the video was captured on Amapola Street in Olongapo City, Philippines, on August 29.SNAKE SIGHTED IN FLOODED OLONGAPO STREETWATCH: A snake was caught on video swimming through floodwaters along Amapola Street in Barangay Sta. A keyword search led us to Licopit's Facebook profile, where we found a very similar-looking video. Licopit shared several other videos on the same day, indicating that Olongapo City was hit by floods around that time. We also found a report by Philippines-based news outlet YouScoop, which quoted Licopit as saying: “When the rain is heavy, there's always flooding, but it's not that high. It's just that the flood season is here, and the rain hasn't stopped." He added that it was not normal for them to see snakes during floods.According to a local news report dated September 1, the Olongapo City government declared a state of calamity following weeks of intense rainfall that triggered widespread flooding and landslides. The flooding claimed one life and led to the displacement of more than 700 families.
