Puri Rath Yatra recreated at Gorimedu Jagannath temple in Pondicherry

Devotees participating in the ‘Rath Yatra’ of Lord Jagannath, organised by Pondicherry Utkal Samaj on Thursday. | Photo Credit: KUMAR SS Religious rituals and cultural programmes were held at the temple for Lord Jagannath near Gorimedu on Thursday.Organised by the Pondicherry Utkal Samaj, the Odhia community living in Puducherry and nearby areas gathered at the temple to recreate the famous Puri Chariot festival. An event organised by the community since the construction of the temple at Gorimedu in 2007, witnessed chanting of bhajans by the devotees when the idols were taken out from the shrine to the chariot.Large number of local residents also participated enthusiastically in the festival. The Rath Yatra is the most famous festival of Lord Jagannath which starts fifteen days after ‘snana purnima.’ Published - July 17, 2026 12:24 am IST
