Punjab received Rs 1.89 lakh crore in investment proposals in four years: CM Mann

Punjab has received investment proposals worth Rs 1.89 lakh crore over the past four years, with the potential to generate 6.31 lakh jobs, the Bhagwant Mann government said on Friday. The figures describe proposed investment and potential employment, rather than projects completed or jobs already created.Mann cited the figures while reviewing the Industries Department’s work in Chandigarh. He said improvements in infrastructure, approvals and governance had helped attract investors to the state.The government also released district-wise figures for proposals submitted through common application forms during the financial years 2022-23 to 2026-27. Mohali led with Rs 9,478 crore, followed by Ludhiana with Rs 4,968 crore, Patiala with Rs 2,590 crore and Hoshiarpur with Rs 2,003 crore.According to Mann, Mohali and Ludhiana together accounted for 49.8 per cent of the investment proposed through those forms. He said Mohali’s growing technology sector could make it a major centre for IT companies and start-ups. The chief minister said Punjab’s established industries, including textiles, engineering and food processing, were attracting investment alongside technology, renewable energy and automobile manufacturing. He named Tata Steel, JSW Steel, Nestle and Cargill among companies that had invested in or expanded their presence in the state.Mann said the government wanted industrial growth to reach more districts and create jobs for skilled young people within Punjab. - Ends
