Punjab launches 10-day cleanliness drive to clear garbage hotspots statewide

Punjab Local Government Minister Harjot Singh Bains on Saturday launched a 10-day cleanliness drive from Nangal to remove garbage-vulnerable points across the state. The campaign, which will run till September 7, is aimed at making Punjab cleaner through public participation.Joining Safai Sewaks and local councillors at the launch, Bains said the drive would strengthen Punjab's efforts to eliminate open garbage dumping sites.He also appealed for public support, saying the campaign would involve elected representatives, officials, civic bodies, NGOs and other stakeholders across the state over the next 10 days.Speaking at the event, Bains said, "Punjab is the sacred land of our gurus and saints and a land of immense spiritual power. It is our collective responsibility to keep it clean and beautiful." He said MLAs, deputy commissioners, municipal corporation commissioners, additional deputy commissioners, executive officers, councillors, NGOs and others would take part in the statewide campaign.According to the government, people can use the M-Seva app to upload photographs of garbage-vulnerable points in their areas. A unique ID will be generated for each complaint so that people can track its status. The minister said several such points had already been identified in cities and towns across Punjab. Bains also said the work of Safai Sewaks must be respected. "Our Safai Sewaks work tirelessly to keep our cities and towns clean. We must support them and ensure that their efforts are not undone by irresponsible dumping of garbage," he said.In Hoshiarpur, local MLA Bram Shanker Jimpa, mayor Praveen Saini, Municipal Corporation Commissioner Jyoti Bala Mattu, councillors and civic body officials joined the campaign from Fatehgarh Chungi.Addressing the gathering, Jimpa said the Punjab government, under Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, was making efforts to keep cities and villages clean, beautiful and pollution-free.
