A 44-year-old man allegedly killed his friend with a baseball bat after an argument while they were consuming alcohol in Pune and later severed the victim's legs before dumping them at a garbage site. The incident took place on Friday, November 6. Police have arrested the accused, identified as Pintya alias Vishnu Tanaji Kumbhar.Senior Inspector Jitendra Koli told PTI that civic workers found two human legs in a plastic sack at a roadside garbage heap and alerted the police. The civic workers initially mistook the limbs inside the sack for those of a dog. However, they later realised that they were human remains. While examining the sack, police found the outer cover of a SIM card, which bore a mobile phone number. They traced the number to a contractor, who said he had given the SIM card to his employee, Anil Khade.Police questioned Khade's wife and son and learnt that he had not been living with his family for the past two years. A photograph on his son's mobile phone helped them establish that the severed legs belonged to him, the official said. The investigation led police to Kumbhar, with whom Khade had been staying. When officers visited Kumbhar's house, they noticed a foul smell coming from inside. They broke open the lock and found Khade's body with both legs missing and a major injury to the head.Police later traced Kumbhar and took him into custody."Both men were habitual drinkers. They were consuming alcohol together when an argument apparently broke out. Kumbhar struck Khade on the head with a baseball bat, leading to his death," the official told PTI.Kumbhar then allegedly used a sickle to sever Khade's legs and dumped them at the garbage site, the official added.- Ends(With inputs from Shrikrushna Jagannath Panchal and PTI)
