Puducherry CEO asks officers to prevent movement of liquor, cash and voter inducements in Thattanchavady ahead of bypoll

Ravi Prakash has urged officers to prevent movement of cash, liquor, narcotics, and other inducements in Thattanchavady constituency where a bypoll was scheduled to be held on October 6.Holding a meeting to review preparations for the election, the CEO said although bypoll was confined to Thattanchavady, vigilance should be maintained across Puducherry, the release said. He said intensive monitoring of sensitive areas, financial transactions, movement of goods, vehicles, and liquor sales have a bearing on the election process. The officers should enforce the Model Code of Conduct strictly, he said. Mr. Prakash called upon enforcement agencies and officers deployed for election duty to remain alert and proactive. They must work in coordination to bring any suspicious or unusual activity to the notice of the election authorities, he said. The meeting was attended by District Election Officer-cum-Collector A.Kulothungan, Senior Superintendent of Police, Law and Order Kalaivanan, representatives of various agencies, including Airports Authority of India and departments of commercial taxes, cooperative, excise, transport, narcotics, GST and State-level Bankers Committee, the release said Published - September 11, 2026 08:35 pm IST
