Pubs, shops and cafes forced to close in English village as hundreds told to ‘boil their tap water’

That includes the historic Three Crowns pub, with owner Simon Court telling BusinessLive he was unable to serve food without food and drink without running water. “We spent yesterday (Sunday) afternoon phoning and cancelling quite a few people who were due to check in as we didn’t know when the water was coming back on,” he explained. “We also had bookings for lunch and evening meals that had to be cancelled. It’s had a major effect on our turnover for yesterday and today.” Elsewhere, Chris Mount of Blacks Delicatessen, was also forced to shut his shop. “Some of the shops are open, which is great, but you can’t eat anything in town at the moment,” he told the BBC yesterday. “It has had a huge impact… We should be bustling, we would have tables out and it would be full of people.” Most read in The Sun News of the outage came less than 24 hours after residents were hit by a hosepipe ban imposed by South West Water. A notice by the water company, published today, Tuesday, August 11, said that “all customers should now be back in supply.” It continued: “Our teams will remain in the area to complete the permanent repair on the main. “As a precaution a Boil Water Notice remains in place until further notice,” it continued.
