Back in the 90s and early 2000s, one of the biggest trends in gaming (and really in tech as a whole) was making literally everything transparent. From controllers to consoles, companies couldn’t stop themselves from slapping see-through plates on anything in sight and letting us all peek at the innards of whatever we bought. It was a different time for the world, but that gaudy fad has clearly been making a comeback over the past year or so. Xbox’s incredibly limited 25th anniversary collection was one of the first big signs of the opaque renaissance, and now Sony is joining the race to bring us all back to a simpler translucent era. PlayStation Reveals New Transparent Controllers And Console Covers They’ll Inevitably Sell Out Quickly, So Be Prepared Earlier today, PlayStation suddenly revealed the new Prism Collection of PS5 DualSense controllers and console covers. The admittedly gorgeous transparent collection comes in three flavours: Flare Orange, Emerald Green, and Graphite Grey, all of which are set to be released early next year on February 4. Although the actual release date for the Prism Collection is a surprisingly long time away, pre-orders for the controllers and covers will go live on PlayStation Direct and at participating retailers on November 10 at 10am local time. As ever when it comes to PlayStation Direct pre-orders, make sure you’re there early and logged in with your details filled out. As for the prices, the Prism DualSense controllers will go for $84.99/£74.99, the same price point as other new controller collections. The console covers will cost $74.99/£64.99, which is also in line with what other recent covers have cost. Let’s just hope that they don’t sell out quite as quickly as the Marvel’s Wolverine collection. It's not outright confirmed in the PlayStation Blog post, but there will almost certainly be multiple cover variants that factor in the optional disc drive. Brand Sony Original Release Date November 12, 2020 Original MSRP (USD) $499, €499, £449, ¥49,980 (Base) / $399, €399, £359, ¥39,980 (Digital), Operating System Orbis OS
