This year, The Royal Foundation has created On Your Side, a toolkit providing practical advice on supporting people at risk of suicide in sporting environments. The project offers advice including how to spot warning signs of suicide, starting a conversation with someone suspected of having mental health issues and signposting them to further support. On Saturday, William and wife Princess Catherine, 44, attended Everton football ground in Liverpool to celebrate the launch. The appearance follows the pair's seventh joint visit to Northern Ireland, having spent the day in Belfast on Friday. Speaking at the stadium, the Prince told sports players, industry figures and mental health charities 'sport can help save lives'. He said: 'Sport has the ability to reach people who may never walk through the door of a mental healthcare service. 'Never underestimate the difference that you can make. We do not always see what is happening behind closed doors, or understand the battles that may be taking place beneath the surface.' Sometimes, a simple conversation is where hope begins.'The moments that often matter most are the simplest ones: checking in on someone, listening without judgement, and reminding them that they are not alone. Small acts of kindness can have an extraordinary impact.'Speaking on World Suicide Prevention Day in September, William said suicide prevention works 'when responsibility is shared'.Prevention works, he said, when people have the 'confidence to act and when organisations provide the tools, knowledge and culture that make those actions possible'.'That is what today is about,' he added. 'Giving people the confidence to step forward, giving organisations a practical way to make a difference, and bringing the sporting community together behind a shared purpose.'
