Medical dramas are a staple of network television, but streamers have been slow to catch up. HBO's The Pitt, both an audience favorite and an acclaimed Emmy winner, will return for season 3 in January. But it is an overall outlier, as newer platforms mostly struggle with a genre that has defined the small screen for decades. Netflix's Pulse is a prominent example, cancelled after only a single season. Quiz of God, a reboot of the five-season Korean drama, will debut on Prime Video on December 4, with actor Shotaro Mamiya in a starring role. The news was accompanied by a visual teaser, which can be seen below, of the actor playing the role of pathologist Haruto Hatsushima. The upcoming drama centers on Haruto Hatsushima. The character is described as a “genius forensic pathologist,” according to the official press release, and the former neurosurgeon is even said to be chosen by God from those around him. But the eccentric individual steps away from surgery for a position at the National Forensic Autopsy Center. Bodies that have died under mysterious circumstances tend to end up there. Haruto deals with those confounding cases, which include the odd demise of a convicted kidnapper, the sudden loss of an underground idol caught in an online controversy, and more. Each of these calls back to a rare disease that's typically undetected. Haruto views it as a “quiz of God” which he is determined to solve. Haruto has his own mystery illness, however, leaving him wondering how long his body has left. The reboot's pending arrival drew a reaction from its lead star, who spoke of his own personal experiences and how it will inform the upcoming Prime Video Original. In the statement, which is included below, the actor also speaks fondly of his work with director Shunki Hashizume: The new Quiz of God reboots the original, which starred Ryu Deok-Hwan and became a cultural phenomenon in South Korea. The story centered on the genius medical examiner Han Jin-woo and zeroed in on his work of unraveling the secrets and truths behind unexplained deaths. Like the original, the new Quiz of God will hope to achieve similar success. The bones are present for a procedural saga that still carries within it a bevy of personal twists and turns to keep viewers hooked. founded September 7, 2006 first original series alpha house notable shows The Boys, Invincible, Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan, Hanna, Carnival Row, The Wheel of Time, Reacher, Daisy Jones & The Six, Swarm, Citadel notable movies Borat 2, The Tomorrow War, Coming 2 America, One Night in Miami, Jolt, Sound of Metal, Honey Boy, Without Remorse
