Prime Video’s New 8-Part Teen Drama Is The O.C. Meets Outer Banks

At the same time, the mystery-adventure and family drama elements of Sterling Point make it especially appealing to fans of the ongoing teen thriller series Outer Banks, which features a similarly spectacular setting. Prime Video’s Sterling Point Feels Like A Cross Between The O.C. And Outer Banks A funny, emotional coming-of-age drama with a contemporary soundtrack designed to capture the thrilling unpredictability of formative romance and adolescent soul-searching, Sterling Point has all the makings of a modern classic in its genre. Very much in the mold of shows like The O.C. and One Tree Hill, it strikes the perfect balance between relatability and youthful idealism. Much like its influential forerunners, Sterling Point does seem to lean into melodrama at regular intervals, but the show’s young ensemble cast is convincing enough to engage us in the personal trials and tribulations of its characters. Annie Jacobson appears to come from a life of rare privilege in New York, but her struggle for identity is universal. In this sense, Prime Video’s tale of teenage self-inquiry is a lot like the Netflix show Outer Banks, which also shares Sterling Point’s spirit of adventure and focus on fish-out-of-water mysteries. It’s clear that Amazon’s streaming platform hopes its new series can be a genuine rival to the hugely successful teen drama starring Chase Stokes and Madelyn Cline. The O.C.’s Co-Creator Josh Schwartz Is Behind Sterling Point It’s no surprise that Sterling Point has already drawn comparisons with The O.C., given that the classic teen drama’s creator Josh Schwartz is one of its show runners. What’s more, Schwartz oversaw the revival of his series Gossip Girl earlier this decade, in which the central star of his new series Ella Rubin stood out playing a supporting role. Since various spinoffs of The O.C. failed to materialize in the late noughties, it feels as though Sterling Point is the closest Schwartz has come to reviving the show that launched his career in television. If the trailer for the Prime Video series is anything to go by, Schwartz’s musical sensibilities are still what they were 20 years ago. The Fallout’s Megan Park might be the creator and lead writer of the show, but longtime collaborators Schwartz and Stephanie Savage have their fingerprints all over Sterling Point. It’s set up to be the ideal summer binge for lovelorn teenagers looking for a new series to get lost in.
