The hit Prime Video series created by Megan Park follows Annie Jacobson (Ella Rubin), a young woman from New York City who heads to Canada to learn about the island she inherited from her grandfather. In the process, Annie uncovers a wealth of secrets, including Ramona (Amélie Hoeferle), the long-lost sister she never knew she had. Across eight soapy episodes, Sterling Point delivers a story about family, friendship, young love, and the cost of burying the past. Season 1 mostly focused on paternal woes and how fathers, even if they don’t share the same DNA, play important and influential roles in their children’s lives. With major cliffhangers established heading into the finale, Sterling Point Season 2 now has the opportunity to explore the impact that different familial relationships can have on the young characters' lives. 'Sterling Point' Season 2 Needs to Shift the Spotlight to the Moms While much of Season 1's action showcased Annie and Ramona's push-and-pull relationship, significant focus was given to the characters' fathers — namely, Steven (Jay Duplass), Annie and Connor’s (Keen Ruffalo) adoptive father, who didn't necessarily earn Father of the Year honors, and Joe (Jeffrey Dean Morgan), the father of island native Ellis (Jacob Whiteduck-Lavoie), who had an affair with Ramona’s birth mother and now has to win his family back. The big reveal at the end of the season was that Joe wasn't Ramona's biological father, but Steven, who was fulfilling his and his late wife’s wish to have a biological child of their own. Now that Season 2 has been confirmed, however, Sterling Point would benefit from shifting its focus to the mothers. The finale confirms that Connor has secretly reached out to his birth mother, who, in a letter from the adoption agency, stated she was willing to meet. Whether he accepts the offer or even tells his twin is another matter. By embracing this storyline, the series could introduce a figure for both characters who has essentially been missing from their lives. Introducing this new character would expand Annie and Connor's arcs with an accessible storyline that some viewers might be able to relate to. It could also strengthen the dynamic between the twins and Ramona, who also met a birth parent. Will they see eye to eye and realize they've all been missing something they never knew they needed, or will they realize the people who raised them need to earn the moniker of "parent" first? The series' overarching action centers on what the trio will do with the inherited Sterling Point: keep it or sell it. With a newfound cog potentially informing their ultimate decision, Prime Video's soapy drama is only destined to get more interesting. Season 2 of 'Sterling Point' Has Many Stories to Explore Sterling Point Season 2 also has the potential to introduce another character: Oona (Bo Bragason) and Maple's (Mabel Strachan) missing-in-action mom, who played a major role in Oona's arc and shaped the abandonment issues present in her rocky relationship with Ramona. Previously, Park discussed the desire to "give more landscape to" this particular storyline, and incorporating it into Season 2 could strengthen the siblings' relationship, since Oona has served as a surrogate mother to Maple. However, it could also lead to Oona's mom finally understanding the consequences of her actions on her children. Contrasting a character whose mother exists only in name with characters who have never known their mothers could create plenty of tension. Sterling Point may be melodramatic and soapy at times, but it's ultimately centered on family and the fact that no family dynamic is the same. If Season 2 uses mothers as its focal point, it would maintain the previously established emotional core that made the Prime Video series an instant hit while finding new ways to grow and expand the characters that viewers have already fallen in love with.
