Prime Video Officially Adapting Popular 40-Year-Old Manga Into Live-Action Series For Next Year

Prime Video just revealed that it's working on a live-action adaptation of Saki Hiwatari's manga Please Save My Earth, which will debut in fall 2027. Alice Hirose is the star of the show, and Takahiro Miki is on board as the director and Nana Yamamoto as the screenwriter. So far, Hirose is the only cast member announced at this point. The story centers on a high school student named Arisu Sakaguchi, who realizes her peers have been having the same dreams as her, about living on a lunar base in a past life. She begins investigating the bizarre phenomenon, just as the boy who lives next door starts experiencing his own past-life dreams with a love connection to Arisu's past-life identity, Mokuren. As Arisu continues her journey, she discovers shocking revelations about Mokuren, who holds a secret that could forever change everyone living in the present. The original sci-fi romance manga was first released in 1986 and ended in 1994, with 21 volumes being published during that time. More than 16 million copies of Please Save My Earth have been sold. Alongside the Prime Video announcement, the author released a statement saying she was "genuinely surprised" that her story is being adapted for the small screen. "Think of it as a festival! Let's enjoy it together!" she exclaimed. Miki, the director of the Prime Video series, admitted that he's been wanting to adapt Please Save My Earth more than any other manga out there. He plans to "honor the passion" of Hiwatari's work while adding a "visual beauty and emotional depth that only live-action can achieve." The filmmaker, who has directed movies like My Tomorrow, Your Yesterday, Even If this Love Disappearances from the World Tonight and The Last Song You Left Behind, is collaborating with the visual effects company The Seven to create the lunar base and space scenes using cutting-edge technology. Hirose revealed that filming has already gotten underway on Please Save My Earth. When she first walked onto the set, she was "absolutely blown away." The actress understands that the manga has a devoted fanbase, so she and Miki made sure to read those original stories so they could ensure the Prime Video series honors the author's work.
