Video shows a used meal tray is sitting in the aisle of what looks to me like a British Airways premium economy cabin, covered in dishes and crumpled napkins, and another passenger has to step over it to get through. I guess it makes sense to people who just leave room service trays outside their hotel room door, and don’t call down to have them collected? A post shared by SOJO (@lost_in_locale) Most commenters point out that it’s terrible to just put your dishes on the ground where other people have to step over them. However, a few blame flight attendants for not collecting trays quickly enough. That’s often a problem, whether they’re busy with other duties and insufficiently staffed or playing Candy Crush in the galley. I get the frustration with waiting for meal trays to be picked up. There’s no room to open a laptop with the meal still there (although I’ll turn my meal tray vertically while waiting for its collection). But this is some main character syndrome. Next time he wants something, flight attendant should put it on the floor. The opening caption complains that some people don’t know how to act in premium economy. You’re supposed to keep the aisle clear in coach, too. It’s not acceptable behavior anywhere on the aircraft. Paying for a slightly better seat doesn’t suggest greater expectation of class. Back in 2017, I wrote about a man who dumped his meal in the aisle so he could read. In November 2024, a Delta passenger flying Paris to Boston put their used meal tray in the aisle to make room for work. And there was the American Airlines passenger flying Miami to Chicago who said the crew refused to take his empty pizza box. He put it in the aisle, and said flight attendants kept kicking it out of their way for the rest of the flight. At least that passenger acknowledged his own contribution: “yes, I know, a bit childish.” Topics on this page
