TWO savvy savers have woken up as millionaires following September’s Premium Bonds draw. NS&I has revealed the latest lucky jackpot and high-value prize winners – here’s everything you need to know. Premium Bonds prizes range from £25 to £1million, with two people landing the seven-figure jackpot every month. September’s first £1million winner is from London. Their winning bond, 484QT130447, was bought in January 2022 for £25,000, and has the maximum holding of £50,000. A total of 95 people have won £100,000, including one lucky saver from Berkshire with a total holding of just £120. Another holder from Reading who had only £800 invested took home one of the £100,000 prizes. Meanwhile, a saver from Hampshire and the Isle of Wight has turned a £100 Premium Bonds holding into a £50,000 windfall. NS&I has confirmed that it awarded 6,529,868 tax-free prizes worth a combined £497,086,175 in September’s draw. High-value allocations included the two £1,000,000 jackpots, 95 payouts of £100,000, 192 of £50,000, 381 of £25,000, 954 of £10,000, and 1,909 of £5,000. Most read in Money The remaining fund was distributed across lower tiers; 19,882 prizes of £1,000, 59,646 of £500, 2,365,010 prizes each at the £100 and £50 levels, and 1,716,787 prizes of £25. September is a bumper month for Premium Bonds holders after NS&I increased the annual prize fund rate from 3.8% to 4.35%. The odds of each £1 bond winning a prize have improved from 22,000-to-one to 21,000-to-one. In August, NS&I Retail Director Andrew Westhead said: “This is the second time this year we have been able to increase the Premium Bonds prize fund rate and shorten the odds.” NS&I estimated the changes would result in more than 308,000 extra prizes in September compared with August, adding around £63million to the monthly prize pot. How to check your numbers this month The two £1million jackpot winners are contacted directly by NS&I’s Agent Million before their numbers are publicly revealed. Bigger prizes can be checked on NS&I’s list from the first working day of each month, which covers prizes from £5,000 up to the £1million jackpots. Everyone else has to wait an extra day – you can use the NS&I prize checker or the Premium Bonds prize checker app to see if you have won from Wednesday, September 2. If you win, NS&I will notify you by email or text if your details are registered and up to date. Over 22million savers hold Premium Bonds, so plenty of people will be eager to check whether their numbers have come up. Are there unclaimed Premium Bonds prizes? Yes, and there is no time limit for claiming a Premium Bonds prize. NS&I is sitting on 2,837,572 unclaimed prizes worth £125,420,775.
