Pregnancy, abortion, alleged cruelty: What happened during Twisha's final days?

The Central Bureau of Investigation has filed a 636-page charge sheet in the death case of 33-year-old Twisha Sharma, who was found dead at her in-laws' residence in Bhopal on May 12 after five months of marriage. The investigation agency charged her husband, lawyer Samarth Singh, and her mother-in-law, retired district judge Giribala Singh, under Sections 85, 108, and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyay Samhita for cruelty, abetment to suicide, and common intention. According to the charge sheet, Twisha faced continuous mental harassment, financial pressure to transfer her investments, character assassination, and a dispute over pregnancy termination. Digital evidence, including WhatsApp messages, medical records, counselling details, and CCTV footage, documented her distress preceding her death. Forensic examinations, including a second postmortem by an AIIMS Delhi medical board, confirmed the cause of death as antemortem hanging. While the agency concluded that sustained harassment drove Twisha to take her own life, her family maintains that she was murdered and demands further accountability.
