Prakash Raj, groups seek Karnataka CM's intervention in ongoing SIR drive

Actor Prakash Raj and several civil society organisations have written an emergency letter to Karnataka Chief Minister DK Shivakumar, urging the state government to intervene in the ongoing Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls and prevent what they called a “grave injustice” to voters.The signatories include representatives of Eddelu Karnataka, Muslim Muthahade Mahaz, Ashirvad, Namma Matha Namma Hakku Vedike and Nagarika Matha Kavalu Samithi.The groups claimed that 1.09 crore voters have been placed on the ASDDO list and alleged that Karnataka has recorded the highest proportion of proposed voter deletions in the country.They also warned that nearly half of Bengaluru’s voters could potentially be removed from the electoral rolls, claiming that the proposed deletions exceeded 60 per cent at nearly 3,000 polling booths. The signatories urged the state government to seek a three-month extension for the Enumeration Form process. They also called for the revision to be conducted systematically over a year.The groups demanded fresh door-to-door verification of voters categorised as “Shifted”, “Absent” and “Others”. They also sought the distribution of Form 8 to voters who had changed their addresses. They further called for a statewide voter-awareness campaign and help desks to assist people with the revision process.The organisations urged the Karnataka government to raise the issue in the Assembly and pass a resolution if the Election Commission does not accept their demands.They also asked the government to approach the Supreme Court, if necessary, to protect the voting rights of eligible citizens.- EndsPublished By: Aprameya RaoPublished On: Aug 17, 2026 20:48 IST
