Powerful Explosions Rock Kyiv as Russian Missile Attack Kills 1, Injures 2 Amid UN Ceasefire Push

Shortly before the blasts, Ukraine’s Air Force warned of Russian ballistic missiles heading toward the capital, Kyiv region and Chernihiv region to the north. Falling debris partially destroyed a private house in Kyiv’s Dniprovskyi district, where people might be trapped beneath the rubble, Mayor Vitali Klitschko said. City authorities also reported damage to a 16-story apartment building and an eight-story nonresidential building in the district. Both injured people were hospitalized. In Podilskyi district, debris set cars ablaze in a parking lot near a medical facility. A warehouse caught fire in Solomianskyi district, while another warehouse building was damaged in Sviatoshynskyi district. Emergency crews responded across the city. The attack came as world leaders met in New York to discuss efforts to end Russia’s war. President Volodymyr Zelensky had offered a reciprocal halt to energy strikes during talks with US President Donald Trump: Kyiv would stop hitting Russian energy facilities if Moscow stopped attacking Ukraine’s electricity, heating and water systems. No agreement with Russia had been announced.
