Power Rangers Officially Return In A Major Way On July 28

Published Jul 19, 2026, 1:00 PM EDT Jared is a writer, editor, and Communications Studies graduate who loves popular nerd culture (almost anything to do with Marvel, DC, Star Wars, or The Lord of the Rings) and the interactive storytelling medium. Jared's first console was the PS1, wherein he fell for Spider-Man, Spyro the Dragon, and Crash Bandicoot. Having launched at the tail-end of 2024, Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Rita’s Rewind was sandwiched by Tribute’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge and Marvel Cosmic Invasion a couple of years before and after it was released. Theoretically, Digital Eclipse’s 2D beat-’em-up game should’ve been regarded as highly as Tribute’s, but wasn’t, and that’s a shame. However, there’s a unique silver lining that this Power Rangers game is fortunate enough to be receiving a little less than two years later. If there’s ever a game that needed a second wind and could well earn it by being thrust toward players in 2026, it’s Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Rita’s Rewind, which will be available on PlayStation Plus for free a little over a week from now. Per the official PlayStation Blog, it was revealed earlier this week that Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Rita’s Rewind is joining the PS Plus Game Catalog this month. In particular, Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Rita’s Rewind will be available for subscribers of PS Plus’ Extra and Premium tiers. Likewise, it’ll be available for PS4 and PS5. Unlike Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, Rise of the Ronin, and Firefighting Simulator: Ignite, which are all already available on the service, Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Rita’s Rewind becomes available on July 28 (in the US, UK, and Japan). It’s opportune timing for the nostalgia-infused Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Rita’s Rewind, as a fresh batch of gamers being introduced to it could allow its shelf life to be prolonged further. For instance, Marvel Cosmic Invasion announcing DLC updates suggests that it’s been quite popular lately, and it’d be terrific if Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Rita’s Rewind could leech some of that success in the 2D beat-’em-up genre space, which doesn’t often have a ton of competition or ubiquitousness. It’s true that 2D beat-’em-up games are still relatively niche, with their arcade-style gameplay not possibly being capable of satisfying all gamers for extensive periods, necessarily. It probably helped Marvel Cosmic Invasion that it was inspired by iconic Marvel superheroes, while anyone who adored Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge might’ve inherently been interested to see what the studio would achieve with Marvel in that same vein. Many fans’ gripes with Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Rita’s Rewind revolved around its hefty price point. That said, that issue dissolves somewhat with a subscription to PS Plus Extra and Premium, and it’ll be interesting to see how many more gamers are willing to play Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Rita’s Rewind once it becomes far more accessible to them in this economy.
