Power Rangers’ latest, and perhaps most ambitious, series is in full swing, and its newest installment has introduced a villain who could hold the key to unlocking what may be the Rangers’ darkest and most epic reboot yet. In fact, this new era has the potential to make Lord Drakkon’s Shattered Grid look like child’s play. This past summer, BOOM! Studios launched Power Rangers Unlimited, which has proven to be one of the most ambitious eras in the franchise’s history. The series brings Rangers from every season of the long-running television franchise, alongside characters from its comic book history, together in one explosive narrative. Writers Joey Esposito and Kenny Porter bring this series to life, alongside superstar artist Alessio Zonno. With four issues released so far, the series has been nothing short of fantastic, with each installment proving better than the last. Power Rangers Unlimited #4 dropped on October 14, 2026, and finally introduced the previously teased Black Turbo Ranger. To say the least, this villain has made an exceptional splash in the franchise, leaving us with the impression that they have great, albeit wicked, things in store for the story ahead. However, before we continue, be warned: MAJOR SPOILERS lie ahead for issue #4, so proceed at your own risk. Power Rangers’ New Black Turbo Ranger Could Rewrite the Franchise’s Entire History Main Cover by Federico Sorressa for Power Rangers Unlimited #4 (2026) The Black Turbo Ranger first appeared in Power Rangers Unlimited #1 as a mysterious figure cloaked in shadows aboard a black Astro Megaship. Readers got only a glimpse of Black Turbo as he called Lord Zedd incompetent after his defeat at the hands of the Unlimited Team, then disintegrated him. However, the character's first full appearance takes place in Power Rangers Unlimited #4, where they finally step out of the shadows and face off against the Unlimited Team. This issue also debuts the Black Turbo Ranger's massive, never-before-seen, monster-truck-esque Zod. In an alternate timeline, the villain uses the Zord to open a rift in time over Mariner Bay, nearly erasing the city and its Lightspeed Rangers. Luckily, the Unlimited Team travels to their world to close the rifts and restore their timeline before the damage becomes permanent. While the team ultimately defeats the Black Turbo Ranger in this encounter, the threat is far from over. It's clear that this villain has their sights set on rewriting history itself, erasing the very Rangers who protect the universe. Based on what we've seen so far, the threat posed by the Black Turbo Ranger could eventually rival that of Lord Drakkon himself. During Shattered Grid, Lord Drakkon threatened the entire Power Rangers Multiverse through his conquest of the Morphin Grid, ultimately stealing the Heart of the Morphin Masters and gaining the power to reshape reality itself. However, the Black Turbo Ranger may represent an entirely different kind of danger. Their apparent ability to manipulate time and space could allow them to eliminate potential opposition across multiple realities before the Rangers even have a chance to fight back. Given that the Black Turbo Ranger has been amassing power by traversing the timeline and collecting key artifacts, it's clear this first attempt to erase Mariner Bay and the Lightspeed Rangers is only the beginning of their reign of terror. If anything, things will likely get much darker from here on out. With the timeline and Multiverse involved, this story arc has the potential to evolve into, or perhaps even result in, a separate reboot exploring a future where the Black Turbo Ranger actually accomplishes their goals. Understandably, this would be an incredibly dark Power Rangers narrative to explore, but the potential for a more mature, even mature-rated, franchise story is certainly there, given the premise the Black Turbo Ranger seems to be setting up.
