However, it was later closed as part of a nationwide downsizing programme, leaving the centre without the budget retailer for more than a decade. Now, the brand has returned with a brand-new store and a wider selection of products including faux plants, food storage containers and seasonal goods. The retailer has already started putting its autumn and Halloween ranges on shelves, meaning bargain hunters can get ahead on their seasonal shopping. There is also a brand-new celebration range, with products including gift bags, wrapping paper and party favours available through a three-for-£3 pick-and-mix-style offer. The Lakeside Shopping Centre branch opening marks Poundland’s first new store since August 2024. It also comes as Poundland launches its revamped general merchandise offer across stores in the UK and Ireland. Most read in Money Poundland managing director Barry Williams said the business was being turned around “at pace”. He said: “The re-launch of our general merchandise offer is a significant moment, completing the wholesale revamp of our entire offer across FMCG, clothing and now homewares.” The retailer has not yet confirmed whether any other former Poundland locations will make a similar comeback.
