If you’re doing outdoor movie night you don’t want to be running wires from the house and getting scolded because you’re letting in a draft, this projector is the easiest solution. With its 1080p projection, two-and-a-half-hour battery life, and easy access to streaming and apps, the Nebula Mars 3 Air strikes the best balance of any portable projector. It produces a bright, 400 lumen image perfect for movie nights, in either the living room, the den, or the outdoors. Google TV makes it easy to find Netflix and all your other favorite apps. The Dolby speakers are enough to cut through night noise (as well as the noise of the projector itself), so you are really getting the full cinema experience wherever you take this.ProsCrisp, colorful picture you won't get from these other projectorsBright enough to be used any time of dayEasy to store and transportConsNeeds to be plugged in to operateThis is Xgimi’s latest breakthrough. It’s the $1,000 projector that replaces your TV and then can just as easily be taken to the neighbors. I’m talking a 4K laser projector that is light, portable, and able to lie flat to store easily when it’s not in use. It’s portable in the sense that it’s really easy to grab by the handle and take with you. What you can’t do is charge it up and let it rip and run off battery power for a couple hours. The Elfin Flip needs to always be plugged in, but it’s a worthy compromise for such an uncompromising picture and user experience.Compared with even the brightest among these other portable options, you’re getting four times as much brightness from the Flip. Of course, it’s also a much crisper native 4K image that has depth and contrast that blows these cheaper projectors out of the water. This isn’t just the perfect movie night (or lazy morning) projector; it also has low latency for gaming and Bluetooth for connecting external devices like headphones and speakers. With an HDMI and HDMI eARC for audio, it’s easy to hook up a console of choice and a favorite speaker and just let an afternoon fly by.Advertisement - Continue Reading BelowProsGreat for streaming or playing local multiplayer gamesCan run off battery as a projector or Bluetooth speakerSurprisingly good soundConsBattery life can't get through a short movieI love the Elfin Flip 4K, but the Vibe One is a blast. It has a similar setup and familiar smart TV interface, only it’s not 4K (1080p only) and it can operate on battery power for up to an hour and a half. I can’t lie and say I don’t wish that was longer, but I’ve still had a great time watching movies and hooking up old gaming consoles for split-screen multiplayer. Did I mention you can use it as a low-key Bluetooth speaker with accompanying lights to go with? Well, it’s because it’s sort of a gimmick, but it definitely works. And in both modes, the sound is impressive given the size of the device and the price point.Aesthetically, it doesn’t have the sleek appeal of the higher-end Xgimi projectors—the colored lights and hard plastic make it look more like a toy than a high-end electronic. That being said, it communicates a different vibe, one that’s more suited to the audience. If you aren’t serious and are just looking to have a good time, this is an easy recommendation.ProsAdjusting the display is as easy as twistingUp to 3 hours of playtime on battery powerRich Dolby audioConsAdvertised "4K support" doesn't mean 4K outputWe all know that the cube is the best shape. The GameCube proved it back in 2001, the Rubik’s Cube is eternal, and the similarly named PlayCube by TCL makes a pretty damn good case for it as a projector form factor today. It takes up less space than any of the ones with a handle, and while I wouldn’t consider it small enough to call it “handheld,” the shape makes it easy to carry it with one hand, at least. On the tech and performance sides, it delivers an impressively bright 750 lumen picture for up to three hours on a fully charged battery. It’s advertised as having 4K support, but really all that means is it can read a signal from a 4K disc or something and scale it down to 1080p. The interface is once again Google TV (like the others above), so it operates just like a smart TV. The sound matches the bold, rich picture quality, and you can swap between four premade EQ settings for gaming, movies, and sports—or better yet just create your own.Advertisement - Continue Reading BelowProsTrifold design keeps it compactLag-free auto focus and keystone correction150 minutes of HD playback on a full chargeConsA bit pricey for what it isNo streaming-app integrationI’m not going to say this tiny trifold device outperforms or outshines any of the projectors above. It doesn’t. But ever since I got my hands on one last month, it has been one of my favorite gadgets to play with. I can truly bring it anywhere and plug in my laptop, Switch, or Steam Deck via USB and project onto any surface. It also supports screen mirroring from phones and wireless casting over WiFi.It’s the most portable projector I’ve ever used, and it’s been upgraded to 1080p and nearly 150 minutes of battery life. That’s now enough to watch a full movie without charging, depending on the movie. You can order it now on Aurzen’s site with an introductory discount of $50 for $580 and it will ship out this month. That makes the final retail price a bit steep for a novelty, but if you want to impress friends and fam with the newest, most cutting-edge tech, this is it.
