Political controversies make CPI(M) grassroots workers anxious, says FB post of VS’s son

A cryptic Facebook post by V.A. Arun Kumar, son of the late communist leader V.S. Achuthanandan, has led to discussions about the ‘crisis’ in the Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)] engendered by the latest revelations made by the Enforcement Directorate about the inquiry against T. Veena, daughter of Leader of the Opposition Pinarayi Vijayan. Mr. Arun Kumar says that the present political controversies and campaigns would have naturally made the grassroots workers of the CPI(M) anxious. “It’s a natural democratic process for the leadership to come forward and speak openly to the people and politically defend itself. But there’s a fundamental truth to be remembered during any crisis: that this movement was not built on the interests of any individuals, but on the faith of generations of poor people who have given it their blood and sweat,” he wrote. While politically defending the smear campaigns, the party should exercise caution at each stage to ensure that its credibility doesn’t even suffer a scratch in the eyes of ordinary people. The Left movement becomes stronger when it avoids mistakes and is able to move forward transparently, dispelling people’s doubts. “As my father always reminded us, the people are the masters of this political movement, and their trust is its greatest capital,” Mr. Arun Kumar wrote.
