POLAND’S diplomatic security chief is fighting for his life after mysteriously plunging from a third-floor embassy window. The horror incident unfolded at Warsaw’s consulate in Slovenia and comes amid growing fears of Russian hybrid attacks on Nato members. Slovenian police were also not allowed to inspect the scene, as embassy premises are inviolable under international law. The mission, which is based in the Slovenian capital of Ljubljana, announced that a probe would be carried out by its own investigators. Polish Foreign Ministry spokesman Maciej Wevior confirmed the incident, saying that a resident of the building fell from a window while on leave. Despite being officially on holiday, the security chief allegedly took a diplomatic pouch without authorisation. There is so far no suggestion that the fall was connected to his job. But Krzysztof Bosak, deputy speaker of the Polish parliament, called the incident “suspicious” and called for a detailed investigation. He said: “If European countries step up, the US is going to be there with them. We need countries like Germany and France to get serious.” Cohen spoke out after Tusk warned that stronger defences were vital.
