Police station adoption list withdrawn following controversy over inclusion of suspended ADGP M.R. Ajith Kumar

Additional Director General of Police M.R. Ajith Kumar The inclusion of suspended Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) M.R. Ajith Kumar on the list of senior police officers assigned to “adopt” police stations as part of the Union government’s efforts to create model police stations has triggered a controversy. The issue prompted the Keralam Home department to order the withdrawal of the list. The order, issued by State Police Chief Ravada A. Chandrasekhar on August 31, 2026, follows the directions issued during a Director Generals of Police (DGPs) and Inspector Generals of Police (IGPs) Conference convened by the Prime Minister in 2025.The Prime Minister had directed that police officers of the rank of district-level officers and above with at least 10 years of service should adopt one police station each and implement measures to improve policing by achieving at least 5% of the recommendations of the conference. Such efforts are intended to develop model police stations in line with the Viksit Bharat 2047 vision.As part of the order, 59 IPS officers have been assigned police stations in the State as supervisory officers. The list includes officers from the rank of Superintendent of Police (SP) to DGP. Among them, Mr. Ajith Kumar has been allotted the Varkala police station in Thiruvananthapuram.Besides the State Police Chief, the other senior officers on the list include DGPs Yogesh Gupta (Thampanoor), Manoj Abraham (Vattiyurkavu), S. Suresh (Kilimanoor) and S. Sreejith (Thumba). Official sources pointed out that the list would be amended by excluding the suspended officer and others on deputation to the Centre and other States. The proceedings state that the officers will oversee the implementation of identified measures in their adopted police stations, periodically review progress and ensure that the initiatives contribute to the development of model police stations.
