Police probe into ED report on CMRL case: CPI(M) leader P. Rajeeve alleges Keralam CM aiding interests of BJP

Communist Party of India (Marxist) leader and former Minister P. Rajeeve has accused Keralam Chief Minister V. D. Satheesan of aiding the political interests of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) by ordering a police inquiry into the CMRL-Exalogic payoff controversy centring on Leader of the Opposition and former Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, his daughter T. Veena, and son-in-law and former Minister P.A. Mohamed Riyas.He alleged that the Chief Minister is setting the ground for the BJP to reap political gains by trying to weaken the CPI(M).The Chief Minister’s claim that the government has no option, but to initiate an inquiry as per Supreme Court judgments related to the information shared by the Enforcement Directorate (ED), is part of the efforts to act as per the vested interests of the BJP, he alleged.Mr. Rajeeve told mediapersons that the governments in Punjab, Tamil Nadu and West Bengal had earlier rejected similar attempts by the ED to act against leaders of the Opposition by taking a position that the central agency is trying to act above the powers enjoyed by the State governments.The national leadership of the Congress party has to explain whether the United Democratic Front in Keralam is acting as per the party’s policies or abiding by the BJP’s interests, he said.Mr. Rajeeve alleged that the UDF government was acting at the behest of the ED directive at a time when the partners in the Indian National Developmental, Inclusive Alliance (INDIA) bloc had opposed its political witch-hunt.
