Police officer denies causing death by dangerous driving after teenage boy dies in e-bike collision with car

See more Daily Mail on Google - save us as a Preferred Source Published: 06:34 EDT, 11 September 2026 | Updated: 06:34 EDT, 11 September 2026 A police officer has appeared in court to deny causing death by dangerous driving after a teenage boy died when his e-bike was involved in a collision.Ryley Hutson was pronounced dead at the scene of the incident in Bramcote, Nottingham, in September last year.Daniel Cartwright, a constable with Bedfordshire Police, was charged in July in connection with the 16-year-old's death. Cartwright, 31, made an appearance at Nottingham Crown Court this morning where he spoke only to confirm his name and enter his not guilty plea during the ten-minute hearing, which heard he was driving a Vauxhall Astra at the time.Cartwright, of Kettering, Northamptonshire, was off-duty at the time of the alleged offence. He wore a black suit and black shirt in court, where a judge bailed him to appear again at the same court for a hearing on December 18. A trial date of January 11 next year was also set.A large number of Ryley's family and friends sat in the court's public gallery for the hearing. Our family is now facing this devastating loss and the unexpected financial cost that comes with it.'We are raising funds to help cover the costs of his funeral and a memorial to honor his life — a life that ended far too soon but will never be forgotten.'
